Following his disastrous proposal to Elizabeth Bennet, Fitzwilliam Darcy returns to London from Kent, broken-hearted and dejected. One bright spot penetrates his sea of despair: His sister, Georgiana, has finally recovered her spirits from the grievous events at Ramsgate the previous summer.
