Herbal medicine is often overlooked as a treatment option. However, herbal medicine has a long history—much longer than modern medicine. And for centuries, people have used herbal medicine to cure illnesses, ease pain, and improve their quality of life. However, when medical technology advanced, people shifted away from herbal medicine as science and technology made chemical medicine more popular and widely accessible. One advantage chemical or modern medicine has over herbal medicine is that the dosages are much more regulated, and the effects of the medicine are immediate or faster than that of herbal medicine.
However, people have also realized that modern medicine isn’t always as scientifically sound as one would like to believe. There have been several cases of medicine being taken off the market because of the adverse side effects found after people used it. As such, many are now again turning to herbal medicine to help them recover from their health conditions and make daily life more bearable. If you consider the history of herbal medicine—some Egyptian and Chinese records indicate the use of herbal medicine more than 3,000 years ago—it’s no surprise that some consider it a safer and more reliant option for treating their ailments than modern medicine.
